Edward Kennedy started pursuing his music career in church choir and handbells at Pearl River United Methodist Church in Pearl River, New York. By 11th Grade, he knew he wanted to pursue a career in music when he joined the jazz choir at his school and started performing in musical theatre. During that time, Edward began taking voice lessons with Jack Gremli, Director of Choirs at Nanuet Area School District in Rockland County. Under his guidance, he was able to audition for the music department at York College of Pennsylvania, where he pursued a degree in Music Education.
While at York College, he studied voice under the late vocal coach, Dr. Randal Woodfield, who had a passion for opera and musical theatre. Edward studied piano with Mrs. Lois Nielsen and Choral Conducting with Dr. Grace Muzzo. Edward was a participant with the York College Chamber Singers and the York College Chorale. Edward was involved with the Opera and Musical Theatre Ensemble and performing in musical revues. During his time with ensembles, Edward had the opportunity to perform at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City and with the Singing Sergeants in Washington D.C.
After York College, Edward continued his musical studies in the Philadelphia area, attending Eastern University while pursuing a Master’s in Education. There, he studied voice with Dr. Perry Brisbon and Professor Jim Correnti for piano. He was also involved with the Eastern University Choir and Turning Point, touring all over the eastern United States singing at churches and other venues.
Completing his student teaching in 2015, Edward moved to the Lehigh Valley and served as a day-to-day substitute teacher in multiple school districts in the area as well as being a long-term substitute teacher at Quakertown Community School District. In 2017, Edward obtained the music teaching position for grades 1-8 at the Swain School, teaching general music, chorus and World Music Drumming. From 2019 to present, Edward is teaching at Arts Academy Charter Middle School, focusing on 6th Grade Choral Studies, 5th, 7th and 8th Grade Piano Studies and Instrumental Audition Preparation. Edward is a member of the Pennsylvania Music Education Association.
In addition to teaching, Edward currently performs with Concord Chamber Singers, where he is one of the many tenors in his ensemble. During his time at Concord Chamber Singers, Edward performed at the PPL Center during Phantoms games, IronPigs games at Coca-Cola Park and various concert venues throughout the Lehigh Valley.
Besides piano and voice, Edward has studied a variety of instruments such as violin, clarinet, saxophone, flute, and trumpet. His current new project is teaching himself guitar.
